PUPPIES DUE MID JANUARY 2012, READY FOR HOMES MID MARCH 2012!!!
We are pleased to announce the upcoming litter between Zelda and River! We had a successful natural breeding between these two dogs today!! HOORAY! Last week, while I was knee deep in yard dirt, my fabulous foster parents teamed up to make sure River, who was up in MN with Sue, made it down to Zelda, living in Northwest AR with Diane. Courtney, who is foster mom to Georgie and good friends with Diane and Zelda, stepped in to help this all come together! Sue and Courtney met up in Kansas City, both ladies driving all day to save River the stress of flying down. River is one lucky dog to have such great people looking after his well being. Now, after a week of River living with Courtney, but visiting Zelda during the day, we have success!!! What a group of amazing ladies to all work as a team and make this happen. Zelda will be 4 years old in January, so this litter needed to happen soon. Now we wait and hope for one or two more good breedings, then start counting down. Mark the calendars… 9 weeks to go!!
Zelda is a very small blue female. She lives in Northwest Arkansas with her foster family. Zelda is 4 years old and this will be her first litter! We are so excited about her upcoming pups and the prospects they bring to the health of the Standard Poodle gene pool. Zelda is from very rare bloodlines, mostly German on her dad’s side. You can read more about Zelda on her webpage: Zelda is a third generation Therapy dog, just like her mother and grandmother before her. She also has a Rally title in obedience, as well as her Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title from AKC. She is a smart and driven dog!

River is a mid size Black male Standard Poodle from a combination of conformation and performance lines. His sire has a championship title in both AKC conformation and agility and a CDX in Obedience! His mom is an AKC and Bermuda conformation CH and his grandmother on his mothers side is one of the top Flyball Standard Poodle in the nation, with rally and obedience titles as well!! River himself should gain his Rally title soon, as well as working towards Therapy. He is sweet, gentle, and loving and has his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title with AKC.

These two dogs should produce a really good mix of working dogs and easy going pets / therapy prospects. They will NOT be large dogs. I am thinking this litter will stay 20-22 inches for females, 22-25 inches for males. This means small to mid size is my best guess. If you are looking for a large dog, this litter is likely NOT your best hope. However, if you are looking for very very low inbreeding and a lot of retrieving drive for working sports including hunting, this litter will not disappoint. Zelda is her father’s daughter. A extreme retriever with a lot of heart! If she wants something, she will do what it takes to get it. This drive will be tempered by River’s sweet and gentle nature, to produce a great mix of temperaments in the pups.
COLORS: BLACK, BLUE, Maybe CREAMS, with and without small white markings.

Inbreeding information on this litter from Poodle Pedigree:
Genetic information for Test Breeding Zeldav x River
The COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) is calculated up to a maximum of 12 generations. However, if a generation is found where fewer than 75% of the dogs in that generation are known, the calculation stops just short of that generation. So if all dogs are known in the 5th generation but only half of them are known in the 6th generation, a 5-generation COI will be calculated. For dogs with more than 10 generations of pedigree information available, a 10-generation COI is also calculated for comparison and statistical purposes.
The COI is calculated entirely from the pedigree information present in the database, so if there are inaccuracies in the pedigree, there will also be inaccuracies in the COI. I try to run the COI every Friday. If there is an error on Friday that means I will have to correct the error and rerun the coi on Saturday. For information on what the COI figure means, see http://www.canine-genetics.com/relation.htm, particularly where it discusses the inbreeding coefficient. For a more complete discussion of genetic principles, visit the Canine Diversity Project.

If you would like me to consider your home for one of these puppies, please contact me for an adoption application. I will not take any deposits until I have an ultrasound confirming puppies.
Yay! Cheers and Congratulations to you all. We are so excited to hear the news.
Hurray! Count us in on one of the male pups as discussed in our previous emails. Elvira is ready to train another therapy dog!
Dear Becky,
So thrilled to learn of the news of Zelda and River. I was with you on Tibby and Charlie; but as we know that was not be be. I have filled out an application but perhaps you need another one. Consider me for a wonderful black male Therapy Poodle and many other attainments. Please send me another adoption application ! YES This is GREAT !!!!
Hi Pamela,
I’ll let you know as soon as she is confirmed pregnant. I’m not taking any deposits until we know something for sure. They bred 4 days in a row, so hopefully we will know if she is pregnant in 4-5 weeks. No need for a new application. I still have yours around here and will make sure you are one of the first to hear of any news.
I am sorry about your recent illness but I am glad you are BETTER !! I am anxious to learn of anything about River and Zelda. I know you said you would tell me of any news…and I know you will. I am just excited. I know you understand ! Merry Christmas to you and the entire family Poodles and everyone else !!!
I am looking for a sweet natured standard poodle as a companion for myself. I am 65 years old and live in The Woodlands, Texas. Our house sits on the golf course and is 1 acre in size. Our yard is completely fenced with black steel panels. My dog will be my constant companion since it is just my husband and me. She will stay in the house but will have the yard to play in and I take daily walks and bike on the trails around our neighborhood. I am not particular about the color of the puppy but my first choice would be a female who I would have spayed. I am much more interested in the health of the puppy and was impressed with the minimal in-breeding your January litter has. I am thinking that a puppy suited for therapy work would be a great addition to our family. Please send me an application for the January litter. Thank You!
Hi Lynda,
I will send out applications once I know how many puppies I am having. I have a few homes waiting already and I won’t take any deposits until I know for sure Zelda is pregnant with enough puppies. I will keep you posted on how things develop. Watch for a big update after New Years!
Do you know how many puppies you may be having yet? My wife and I are interested. Would love to have an application. I have had poodles for 42 years.
Hi Scott, we will know in about a week how many we are having. She is due on or around the 20th of January. We have a few more weeks, but she is indeed pregnant and pretty big, though that might just be that she is the smallest girl I have ever bred.
