With the heat well into the 90’s it is time for me to start both Mocha and Jazz on ‘swimming lessons’.  Today I decided to take Mocha.  Flash is an exceptional swimmer and a dedicated retriever, which makes for a great dog to teach pups how to swim.  Nothing makes a dog take risk like chasing another dog who is chasing a ball, even in deep water.

Here is a very short video of our 4 hours at the lake.  Mocha was starting to relax and swim, if I held my hand under her belly.  The problem she is having is she LOVES to splash and try to catch the water that splashes up (watch her do it in the video!!).  In order to splash, she has to drop her butt down.  So she isn’t learning how to swim and ends up standing on the bottom with her back legs and splashing hard with her front legs.  I am guessing with age she will stop being so silly, but for now I will have to wear her out, then work on her swimming after she is over the “OH IT IS TO MUCH FUN TO SPLASH” part of the day.
