Flash… the terrier???

First, let me start this blog off with an explanation of where I disappeared to these last few weeks.  About 2 weeks ago we attended a showing for “The Dark Knight Rises” leaving our 2 kids at the drop in childcare.  At the cost of 10 dollars an hour and an extremely long movie we racked up a bill of 40 dollars.  If that was the only price we paid I might not be so upset, but sadly Aiden brought home one of the worse viruses to hit our family in recent history.  Needless to say the entire family has been sick for the last several weeks.  At first I was tending Aiden, then I was sick, now Kenzie is down with the crud.  All of us have had a round of antibiotics to get over this mess.  Thankfully Keith was only mildly affected, which is often the case.  He thinks because he lives all day around such bugs at the hospital he has a better immune system.  Maybe or maybe he is just one of those lucky people.  He has missed a total of 2 days of work the entire time I have known him (almost 20 years) due to illness of his own.  I’d say that is pretty amazing.

In any case I have been in survival mode, barely able to keep track of the house work, much less anything else.  Today was the first day I felt halfway decent.  My hearing is starting to return and I don’t feel like death warmed over.  Win win!  With that new found energy I took on the dogs.  Flash, Boris, and Mocha all were bathed today.  Jazz I will hopefully get to tomorrow.  Flash was fully groomed, the rest just got a bath.  I hope to get Boris shaved down tomorrow.  I’ve never groomed him before, so I am not sure how that will go.  I want to start early when it is still fairly cool in the garage (my grooming area).  His bath went pretty darn good.  I was able to lead him into the shower with very little issue.  He looked at me with this “Ok, but I don’t think it is a good idea” and then melted into a puddle of poodle on the shower floor once the water hit his back.  By the end I had him standing and enjoying the scrub.  Afterwards he had a true poodle post bath “Run of Joy” around my bedroom, evening taking it upon himself to bound up on the bed!!  I don’t like wet dogs on the bed, but when a dog like Boris is having such an amazing time all I could do was smile.  I called Lisa to let her know that our silly boy was turning another corner.  I moved him into the computer area with Jazz and Mocha and they had a big time chasing each other and tossing toys.  Even Boris picked up some toys and played!!  Another first.  I’m very proud of this sweet big boy.  He’s come a long way in a short time.  Boris’ Story can be found Here

The last two groomings I have put Flash into a terrier type cut.  You wouldn’t believe the number of compliments I get from his ‘Do’.  For those interested in giving this a try, I shaved his body down to his front elbows and back knees with a 7 blade.  I did not take his tail down, but I should have.  I just forgot and I was getting really hot so I just left it a bit full.  Then I shaved the top of his head, sides of his head, ears, and just a bit under his neck with a 15 blade (short) against the grain of the hair.  Lastly I scissored in his legs, front and rear, and took his face hair down till it wasn’t a wooly mess.  I scissored around his feet to make them full, but shaved the bottom.  I think he looks snazzy as a Kerry Blue.  🙂
