Product Review: Midwest Narrow SUV Wire Folding Crate

I just ordered two Midwest Side-By-Side Narrow SUV Crates.    Midwest makes these ‘side by side’ crates in two sizes.   36″ x 21″ x 26″ and 42″ x 21″ x 30″.  My purchase was for the larger version.
Here is a video I took when they first arrived last week.

Now the big question.  Did they fit?  Actually, they did not!  Two crates of this size and height will not fit in Keith’s Honda Pilot.  If the crates had a slanted front, they would have worked perfect.  He has a fancy speaker system in the rear of his vehicle that lowers the head room of the last 4 inches of cargo space.  One crate will fit centered, but I cannot fit these two crates side by side because of the speaker system.  So, I put both these crates in my van.  They offer more head room than my airline crates and will give me a little space on the sides.  I have a mesh crate stashed beside them right now.  I had a 400 and 300 size airline crates back there, and the 300 size was to small for Jazz to fit comfortably.  These crates will give more headroom, but slightly less body room, which is fine because my dogs are not usually crated for long periods of time.  Just going to training or dog shows.   My only option for Keith’s car is to keep the cargo gate or buy the smaller versions where Jazz will not fit as comfortably.  I think we will just have to stick with the gate for now.  I’m already dog poor from purchasing these.

Interestingly, I did a search for slanted front narrow wire crates for station wagons / SUV’s and came up with no options here in the US.  You can get slanted front but not narrow or vice versa.  Europe looks to have a LOT of side by side front slanted kennels in all sizes. To bad that would be cost prohibitive!
