Life With Poodles

VIDEO: Billie and Cash puppies: 4 weeks old

Hey everyone! I decided to take a short video to show how the babies are doing. Litter training is going well. I still have a few who miss when they pee, mostly the boys. They stick their front legs in the box and let it go right outside on the pad. Boys will be boys! They are about a week or two behind the girls in development milestones. Sounds familiar doesn’t it!!

Billie has cut back on nursing, so that was my cue to start feeding them puppy gruel. I heard a small growl and watched her vacate the box after only a short feed. Sure enough, I felt a few teeth when I checked gums. With that information I gave them some very soft kibble ground up and mixed with goats milk formula. They pigged out, so I think the timing was right for this litter. Billie is still filling in with several meals a day to release the pressure. 🙂 So far their tummies are coping with the diet change.

Like I said in the video, I’m building the puppy area and installing the doggy door this weekend. Our weather looks good for the next few days, so I should be able to get most things finished up by then.

I will be taking photos tomorrow. I decided to shave everyone’s faces and rears today and I’m halfway done with the process.  It takes a while to do 10 puppies who have never had a trim.  I want to make sure they all have a good experience.  I have been doing nails every few days to insure Billie isn’t scratched while they nurse. They are great with nails and most of them were really easy going about the face shave. Aladdin had some ‘drama’ after I was done. He cried and acted like his face and butt were on fire. I checked, I didn’t burn him and I shaved several puppies after him who did not do more than scratch at their face and attempt to look at their rears. Some puppies don’t like the sensation. I let him sit in my lap for a minute, which helped. I’ll be shaving him more often just to make sure he doesn’t develop any bad habits and so he will get use to the feel of shaved coat.
