I wanted to make a quick post and let everyone know that Cadence could whelp by the end of this week!  If she whelps early, like her mom and grandmother, she could have them as early as this Thursday.  We are hoping for the weekend, but the girls pick the time.  I spoke with Kerry yesterday, and she tells me Cadence is putting away large amounts of food and growing bigger by the second.  Kerry and her best friend Tanya have everything lined up including a vet on call ‘just in case’.  The Ultrasound showed 6 heartbeats a few weeks ago, so we know we have at least that many.  Early ultrasounds are good to confirm pregnancy, but they are not good at telling how many pups are really inside.  I think Kerry wants to take her in this week for another head count, though I warned her that the vet told me Jazz was having 8 and she whelped 13.

Cadence after her belly shave last Monday.

A recent photo of Tango, the sire.  I love a good shaved down photo.  You can see exactly what this boy has to offer from this shot.  He has a great neck, great tail set, very pretty head with good under jaw, nice chest, moderate angulation that is balanced in front and rear, perfect depth of chest, with a really short loin.  I like him a lot even if he is bigger than what I typically breed for these days.  He doesn’t have that huge sweeping Irish Setter rear and / or straight front shoulder and upper arm like you see in so many AKC Champions these days.   You could shave this dog bald and he would still scream “Poodle!”.

This litter will be whelped by Cadence’s mom in Austin, TX.  I will pick up the babies between 6-7 weeks of age, evaluate, aptitude test, socialize, DNA test, and place them at around 9-10 weeks of age.

Watch for updates on the Facebook page, and then once all the pups are born I’ll post here on the blog.  Time to start getting excited!
