Training Video: Wipe Your Face

by | Sep 5, 2011 | Training Tips | 0 comments

This video was taken over a series of training sessions, over two days.  When I teach something really complicated I break it up, usually it will take a dog 3-4 sessions to really grasp three things:

1.  What I want them to do
2. The name of the behavior
3.  The hand signal for the behavior

Each behavior I train has both a verbal and visual signal.

The video in this blog shows me teaching Jazz to “Wipe” her face with her paw.  This will eventually be turned into her holding her paw up and ‘hiding’ her face, but I start with wipe because it is easier to grasp.  Once she can wipe reliably without any physical cue (tape stuck to her nose), then I will teach her to hold her paw at her nose to look like she is sad, contrite, or sorry for messing up.  It is one of the really cute behaviors you can teach and always a crowd pleaser.
