So you have decided you want ANUTTA puppy!! You will need to do a few things first.
PRICE OF PUPPY
![]() |
First: Cost of a pet
puppy with NO BREEDING RIGHTS is 1600.00 regardless
of color or sex. If this price makes your hair curl and a gasp escape your mouth... I understand. However, with quality there comes a price. We health test all the breeding stock and we only breed out to dogs who are very healthy and tested. Your pup will come with much more training and care than from your average breeder. We charge less than many show kennels (average price now seems to be 1200-2000 for pets as of late 2006) and if you do the refunds listed below, our pups are 1500.00. Due to inflation, the rise in gas prices, and the rising cost of health testing, I have increased my price from 1100.00 to 1600.00 starting 2006. I foster/co-own most of my litters, so travel expenses add up rather quickly when having to drive half way across the US to pick up a litter or to send a female to be bred. CLICK HERE to see breeding cost breakdown for an average litter. I do not sell dogs for breeding purposes. I sell to show homes (Conformation/Obedience/Agility/Hunting) on co-ownerships until the dog is fully health tested and has a title or two. Please do not contact me asking for a breeding dog unless you have an interest in showing your dog first. Co-ownership terms by private treaty. |
We do not charge more for color or sex, because we feel matching the best pup to a family is more important than breeding for a color. I only have one or two litter a year currently, so the individual attention will be there. Your pup will get only the best food, care, and love. Feel free to look in your local paper if you would like a "cheaper" pup, but I wouldn't count on it being cheaper in the long run.
PRICE OF ADULTS
Cost of an adult poodle will vary. Why would we have any adults? Well, some breeding stock will be retired at age five/six and placed in a pet home. Some adults will come my way that I would like to breed one time and then place in a pet home as a fitting retirement. Some dogs loose their homes for any number of reason and need a new one. These dogs could be from my breeding or just a dog I heard about. Any number of reasons could leave me with an adult that needs a good pet home. These dogs will be anywhere from the cost of shots, spaying, neutering, to 1000s of dollars if you are looking for a foundation bitch or stud dog with multiple titles and top bloodlines. Email and ask me if I know of any nice adults if you don't have the time to train and raise a pup!
SHIPPING INFORMATION
I do ship puppies all over the US. The puppies must be 8 weeks old or older (10-12 weeks is ideal) to fly by themselves in cargo and must not be in a fear period. The puppy must also be very stable in temperament, not shy or dominant. Shipping in cargo is stressful and I only do so with the most stable of pups. My favorite shipping option is carry on. This can be done with pups ages 8-9 weeks of age. They will fit in a large carry-on pet carrier with no problems. My pups are started on crate training and I have never had a puppy who didn't sleep through the entire trip with no problems. It is the safest way for the babies to fly. I get to meet the new mom and/or dad, you get to visit with the litter and parents if available, etc. It is the best way for them to fly.
REFUNDS FOR PETS
I do offer refunds up to 100.00 dollars for pets. 50.00 for puppy training class, 50.00 for basic obedience or beginning Agility, your choice. I have found this method to be the best to ensure my pet puppies have long healthy, well adjusted lives in their new homes. Proof of surgery and attendance needed to receive refund (if you have a scanner, send it via email). AS OF 2008 I am discontinuing the spay/neuter refund. I have found that the homes who contact me for a pet are very good homes, very trustworthy and there is no need to increase my price by 100.00s to make sure they get the dogs altered. Instead of increasing my purchase price, I am simply discontinuing the need for a deposit from the home for altering.

I will refund 100.00 dollars for each

This refund will be in addition to the above title/pet refunds, making the total
refund potential 1100.00 dollars. If you are a serious working home, you
can get your puppy for close to free if you go for the gold!
DEPOSIT
To hold a pup for you, we will need half of the price paid. What I like to do is accept 100.00 pre-birth to put you on the waiting list. If a pup is not born to match your needs, I will refund that 100.00 fully. If one is, I will then contact you and say "look, we have 3 females in this litter and you are 2nd on the list for a female, I need you to send in the remainder of the deposit-400.00- to hold your pick spot for the females." You have 10 days to get the remainder of your deposit to me. Once the pups are old enough to temperament test, I will tell you which pups will work for you and you can pick from there. Full payment is due upon pickup, sometime after 8 weeks.
UPDATES ON YOUR PUP
| Once we have agreed that you should have a Poodle pup, I will send out weekly updates on the litter, along with digital photos. I will also set up a website for the pups, where you can send loved ones and co-workers to see your new baby. If you do not have access to email, I can send photos once every 2 weeks, via snail mail. Please let me know if you need this service. |
|
Your puppy will be thoroughly socialized before it ever leaves my home. Did you know that a puppy's brain is not fully developed until 7 weeks of age? If correct socialization occurs during this developmental stage, you will have a fabulous puppy. IF incorrect socialization occur (too much stress on the puppy, not enough exposure to new things) your puppy will have several behavior problems. Each puppy is different and some, even with the best socialization, will be hard headed or fearful. However, we do what we can to stack the cards in our favor and to provide you with a happy puppy to share your life.

|
Each litter is puppy tested at 7 weeks of age, once brain development is complete. This will allow me to see how the pups act around strangers and let me know if there are any "problems" I might have overlooked. Each puppy will be put through a set of situations by a total stranger in a new location. This is used to help determine the pups overall personality and how it deals with new and strange situations. They will also be instinct tested on birds and retrieving skills. Go to the VIP website to learn more about this test under the field section. After the litter is tested, I hold the pups for at least one more week. All pups go through a "fear period" between 8-10 weeks of age, and if a puppy is in a fear period, it does not leave until it is back to normal, usually only taking a few days. You can damage the pups personality by exposing it to a lot of change during the fear period. |
When you come to pick up your new puppy, you will go home with:
1. A signed contract
2. Housetraining information
3. Obedience training information for young pups
4. Puppy food
5. A collar and a leash. You will need to get a new collar when your puppy
outgrows the one he goes home with.
6. An old toy or piece of clothing from here, so he/she has something that
smells familiar.
7. Shot records and AKC papers or a copy of the receipt if they have not come in
yet.
8. A freshly groomed and bathed puppy with a shaved face, butt, and feet (Feet
optional if you like a fuzzy foot, let me know and i can leave them).
Things you will need to get before you bring your puppy home:
1. Dog crate.
| Metal or Airline (plastic), your choice. Size 36x24x26 is good for females and most males. Some folks like to have two. One for the car, and one larger, at home for relaxing while you are at work. Get the small one first, and if you feel your baby needs more room when he/she gets older, buy a new one. The small one makes housetraining easier. Crate training has already started when you take your puppy home. It will be up to you to keep up the good work! |
2. TOYS!
| Stuffed toys are great for pups. Once they grow older, they will learn to destroy stuffed things and pull all the stuffing out. If your children have stuffed toys and you do not want the pup to play with them, do not introduce any soft, stuffed things as a toy. | |
| Nylon Rope toy is also good for pups. You can play tug or fetch (Ha Ha) with your pup, as well as drag it along the ground for a game of chase. | |
| KONG! My favorite toy for dogs. Practically indestructible, this toy can be filled with canned dog food, cream cheese, peanut butter, etc and will keep your puppy busy for hours and hours. You must clean it out every few days just in case the pup couldn't get it all out. You don't old food to sour inside the kong. | |
| Tennis Balls or Bumpers. Poodles love a ball. A retrieving Bumper is also great for any Poodle. | |
| Other: Hard rubber toys are good, as well as nylabones. I don't like Boota Velvets because they are made from cornstarch and tend to make my dogs sick. NO THANK YOU |
3. Chew Toys!!
| Rawhide. Ok as long as you supervise the dog. Don't let them eat too much at once or swallow large pieces. Some dogs do not tolerate the chemicals the rawhide is processed with and it craps their stomach. Watch your dog for signs of upset stomach closely! | |
| Hooves. Ok if you can handle the smell. | |
| Pigs ear or parts. Dogs love'm. Only give under supervision. | |
| Hard Bones. If I need my dogs to be busy for a few hours while "whatever" is going on, I give them each a good basted bone. Raw Meaty bones are not hard and are good for the dogs, but you need a clean place to allow them to eat up without messing up your home. In their crate is a good place to give them this type of bone. |
4. Treats!
| Choose low fat treats if you plan on giving them often. For once a day treat, you can give some of the more hi-fat treats like jerky, liver, etc. | |
| A good Training Treat (for teaching sit, down, etc) is turkey hotdogs, cut into small pieces. Most dogs will do anything for hotdogs and the turkey has less fat. Summer sausage is great as well. This is Merlot's favorite. Also, that dog food in a tube is great. All of my guys will do anything for it. |
5. Food and Water dish
| Plastic, glass or metal is your choice. Make sure the pup will have a hard time picking it up and taking off with it. :) | |
| Feeder?? If you are going to free feed your dogs, you can get a feeder. I free feed and really like it. However, if you feel your puppy is getting thin or overweight, feed a set meal. | |
| Water dish should be something they cannot dump. Some Poodles find it funny to tip over the water dish. |
6. Probably most important is: A big sense of humor and LOTS of love!
