Our Poodles have a blast working! We compete in Obedience and Agility. Some of our dogs go into Conformation (how the dog looks) to make sure we don't become blind to any faults we might be producing but conformation is NOT our main focus. Any person with money can pay someone to grow hair on their dog and trot it around a ring. Working sports show a bond with the handler and those are the homes we look for most. We know what it takes to have a nice working dog and what temperament to look for when picking a working dog. Please visit our poodles in the different working areas to learn more about each and what our dogs have done!
Our foundation dogs or dogs bred by us and the titles they have achieved so far! I know this can be hard to understand, but I have broken it down into Obedience Titles (how the dog acts in public and how they respond to their handler), Agility Titles (teamwork sport based on speed and the ability to navigate obstacles), Conformation (how the dog looks), and Service (Search & Rescue and Therapy)

RALLY TITLE HOLDERS
Macie, Remy, and Boo have all earned Rally Titles
RN- Rally Novice. First level Rally title.
With AKC it means- Rally is a sport in which the dog and handler
complete a course that has been designed by the rally judge. The judge tells the
handler to begin, and the dog and handler proceed at their own pace through a
course of designated stations (10 - 20, depending on the level). Each of these
stations has a sign providing instructions regarding the next skill that is to
be performed. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience.
The team of dog and handler moves continuously at a brisk, but normal, pace with
the dog under control at the handler's left side. There should be a sense of
teamwork between the dog and handler both during the numbered exercises and
between the exercise signs; however, perfect "heel position" is not required.
Any faults in traditional obedience that would be evaluated and scored as a
one-point deduction or more should be scored the same in Rally, unless otherwise
mentioned in the Rally Regulations. After the judge's "Forward" order, the team
is on its own to complete the entire sequence of numbered signs correctly.
Unlimited communication from the handler to the dog is to be encouraged and not
penalized. Unless otherwise specified in these Regulations, handlers are
permitted to talk, praise, encourage, clap their hands, pat their legs, or use
any verbal means of encouragement. Multiple commands and/or signals using one or
both arms and hands are allowed; the handler's arms need not be maintained in
any particular position at any time. The handler may not touch the dog or make
physical corrections. At any time during the performance, loud or harsh commands
or intimidating signals will be penalized.
Rally provides a link from the Canine Good CitizenŽ (CGC) program
to obedience or agility competition, both for dogs and handlers. In addition,
rally promotes fun and enjoyment for dogs at all levels of competition.
Macie, Remy, and Boo have all earned this title
RA- Rally Advanced. intermediate level rally work, performing a more difficult series of individual obedience-type tasks (including jumps) while following a preset course. Advanced rally is performed off lead.
Macie and Boo have this title.
RE- Rally Excellent.
highest level rally work, performing the most
difficult series of individual obedience-type tasks (including jumps and
combinations) while following a preset course. Excellent-level rally is
performed off lead.
Remy and Macie have this title
TRADITIONAL OBEDIENCE TITLE HOLDERS
Merlot, Boo, Macie, Remy, and Major all have Traditional Obedience titles
CD- Companion Dog. First level traditional Obedience title.
With AKC it means the dog can-
1. Heel On Leash, with an exercise that requires them to
heel around strange people. When the handler is asked to stop, the dog
must automatically sit next to the handler. Several changes in pace are
required, as well as abrupt changes in direction (left turn, right turn, several
about turns). The only time the handler can talk to the dog is at the
start of the heeling pattern.
2. Heel Off Leash, same pattern as on leash. Again, no talking
3. Do a 1 min Sit stay next to other dogs with the handler across the
ring.
4. Do a 3 Min Down stay next to other dogs with the handler across the
ring.
5. Do a recall (Handler leaves the dog in a sit stay, then asked the dog
to come when called. The dog comes and sits in front, then the dog is
asked to go to the heeling position).
6. Do a Stand for Examination (stand nicely with the owner out of reach,
while a judge pets them. They are not to move).
Each dog must do this under 3 different judges and not disqualify to receive a
title. For more details, visit the Obedience link below.
Very little communication is allowed. You may give one verbal or hand
signal at the beginning of each exercise, but additional commands will cause you
to lose points or disqualify. An example: To begin the heeling
exercise, the judge tells you to begin and you say "Merlot, HEEL" and then you
start the pattern. To get the highest score you cannot give your dog
anymore commands throughout the rest of the heeling part. Not during the
changes of direction, changes of pace, or when you stop. They dog must
know to stop and then sit next to you at the end without being told. It
can be very hard for the dog, especially if it's noisy at the show or if the dog
is nervous.
Merlot, Major, Boo, Macie, and Remy have all earned this title
In UKC there are a few differences. They must do the recall over a jump
and they must perform an honor sit stay and down stay while another dog is doing their heeling
pattern right near them. The UKC title goes in front of the dogs name.
Boo has this title so his name reads UKC/INT CH,
U-CD, Anutta DeVyne Trick or Treat, CD, NAJ, NA, CGC. UKC Obedience
title will be shown in front with his AKC obedience title in the rear (the CD). It can be hard to understand sometimes.
Boo and Macie have their U-CD titles
AGILITY TITLES
AGILITY TITLE HOLDERS
Merlot and Boo have earned Agility titles
NAJ- Novice Agility Jumpers with Weaves. This is a first level Agility title with AKC. The dog must run an agility course containing Jumps, Tunnels, and Weave polls. The dog must follow the handlers directions on what obstacle to go to and must do so in the correct order. The dog cannot knock down a jump and must complete the course in the required time. Dogs must do this under 3 different judges and not disqualify to receive a title. This is an extremely fast paced course with nothing to slow the dog down. Often dogs disqualify due to going to fast and dropping a bar on a jump or missing command. Dogs LOVE this course and it is often hard to get them calmed down and focused.
Merlot, Boo, and Flash have earned this title
NA- Novice Agility. This is a first level Agility title
with AKC that has
everything that the Novice Jumpers with Weaves has, but also contains
"contact obstacles" such as the A Frame, Dog Walk, and Teeter. There is
also a "pause" table which the dog must lay or sit on for 5 seconds. The
judge determines if it is a sit or a down. This course is slower
than the NAJ course due to the fact that dogs must go up onto obstacles, but can
also be harder because there are sections on each of the contact obstacles that
the dogs much touch to keep from being disqualified.
Merlot, Boo, and Flash have earned this title
OAJ- Open Agility Jumpers with Weaves. This is a second level Agility title with AKC. It is very similar to Novice, but the times are cut down and the course is harder with tighter turns and traps that the dogs can easily mess up on. Dogs must qualify under 3 different judges to receive a title.
Boo has earned this title
CONFORMATION TITLES
CONFORMATION TITLE HOLDERS
Boo, Ruffy, Levi, and Charm all have Conformation
titles
INT CH- International Champion. A Conformation (Structure of the dog) title that judges based on the standard of the breed from it's country of origin, which may or may not be the same as the AKC standard. Dogs are given a Written Critique by each judge. An International UCI Championship title is achieved after receiving three "Certificat d'Aptitude au Championat International de Beaute "Certificates of Beauty" from UCI. These certificates must be awarded by three different judges, with at least two of the judges residing in different countries. (for example: 2 Americans & 1 Canadian. or 1 German) Go to http://www.internationaldogshow.com/ to read more.
Boo has earned this title
UKC CH- United Kennel Club Champion. A Conformation title offered by the second most popular dog club in the US. This dog club focus more on working activities and so often frowns on the "Big Hair" you see in AKC shows. They prefer Poodles be shown in a simple Working cut (2-4 inches all over with a top knot and tail pom). Dogs must be Owner handled and these shows are often smaller and more friendly to new folks entering this sport. UKC website
Levi, Ruffy, Charm, and Boo have earned this title
UKC Grand CH- United Kennel Club Grand Champion. To earn a UKC
Grand Champion title, a dog must: Win the Champion class at least five
times with competition, and win the Champion class under at least three
different UKC licensed Judges.
Levi has earned this title
AKC CH - American Kennel Club Champion.
A Conformation title offered by the most popular dog club in the US. Go to
the www.akc.org website for more details.
Bree has earned this title
SERVICE WORK
SERVICE DOGS FROM ANUTTA
Merlot, Major, Sadie, Boo, Elvira, Merlin, Kipper, and Gracie all are or have
been working service dogs.
SAR- Canine Search and Rescue. This isn't really a title, but it is a job and requires INTENSE training and dedication. Merlot was certified as a Wilderness Live SAR dog when we lived in Alabama several years ago. It took 2 years of training 5 days a week to get him to the point of certification. This is beyond the equivalent of a Championship in any sport you can think up.
Merlot is one of the few Standard Poodles to Certify as a SAR dog!
Therapy Dog
There are many different groups that do Therapy these days.
Requirements are different from group to group, but generally they must be able
to pass an AKC CGC test and the following:
1. REACTION TO MEDICAL EQUIPMENT- Should not react to
Wheelchairs, Crutches, Walkers, etc
2. LEAVE IT- Able and willing to leave food on the ground.
3. ACCLIMATION TO INFIRMITIES- Dog must not react to strange movement, coughing,
wheezing, etc
4. SAY HELLO- Able and willing to go and visit with strangers
