Life With Poodles

A Sirius Update

Siriusly??? What happened with Sirius?  (I’m sure that will get old eventually, right now I am loving it!).   As I stated a few days ago, the last few months were a hot mess.  Several times during the ordeal Gloria and I tried to work out transportation for Mr Sirius to Arkansas from North Carolina.  Neither of us wanted to fly him.  Finally we had it all lined up, ground transport from NC to Memphis.  A few days before he was due to leave Gloria called and asked me if I really ‘should’ take him, not if I would take him.  I thought it over and decided she was right.  I couldn’t take a puppy and try to renovate a home and care for my parents and their pets..   He would be left unattended for far to many hours and receive no training for several months.  No, it would be selfish to take a dog into that situation.  I told Gloria that if she could find a home for him before I was ready to take him (whenever that might be) do it.

Sirius went off to doggy training to see if he could make it as a guide dog.  He spent a month learning the ropes and was sent back home to Kelsey and Gloria because he was WAY to laid back to be a hard core worker like they require for guide dogs.  Guide dog training is extremely regimented, it isn’t like assistance dog training and takes a specific type of dog and temperament.  Most of them are Labs and Goldens for a reason, because the job requires a dog who enjoys doing repetitive and regimented behaviors.  Most Std Poodles hate repetitive training and get bored.  Even knowing most Std Poodles do not work out, the guide dog program  is desperate for more non-shedding dogs.  They are very open to taking them on a trial basis.  A few do become guide dogs, so the reward far outweighs the risk when a breeder of Kelsey and Gloria’s caliber offers them a puppy from generations of health tested parents.  In any case, Sirius was not the exception, he was the rule.  He was bored and refused to play the game  🙂  Once back, Gloria and Kelsey looked him over and thought they might have him evaluated by a handler.  He is breathtaking to look at, so laid back nothing really bothers him, in short he is a perfect candidate for AKC showing.  Rock solid temperament and refined beauty with an amazing front is a win.  Kelsey called and asked me if I would be interested in helping fund his show career.  I was tickled to death!  This solved my issues with timing.  The good people at BlueLine Professional Handling will be taking him out when he turns 9 months of age.  Everyone is excited about this boy and I am tickled to death he isn’t going to be neutered!  I hope to have him come live here at Anutta once he finishes this next stage of his life.  Here is a photo of him taken this month.  He is 6 months old.

TINTLET ANUTTA SECRET KEEPER

His pedigree can be seen here

And I have a nice new website page made up with all this information listed HERE

I went from so excited I was “Getting a new puppy” to “Have to give up my new puppy” to “I’ll eventually get to meet my puppy… likely when he isn’t a puppy anymore but that is better than nothing!!”  At least I know he is in excellent hands with his breeders growing coat for the next few months.  Thank you Tintlet Poodles for this amazing opportunity.
