Hazel is one of the girl pups from our last litter. She is 4.5 months old and her family has gone to FL on vacation. Her mom was not able to locate a pet sitter she felt could properly care for such a young pup, so she decided to make the long drive up to us and let me care for her over this week. We are more than happy to do this for any of our pups!!
I took Miss Hazel to the park this morning for some socialization and training. Hazel is going to be a therapy dog, eventually going to work with her mom. Because of this, it is very important that she is ‘bomb proof’ with kids. Today I tossed her into the fire to see exactly what I had to work with. She did amazing! At first she was wiggles, but I wouldn’t let any of the kids touch her if she wasn’t sitting or laying quietly. If she got up, I put her back in a sit. It did not take but once or twice for her to get “If I stand up, I get put back. I must sit so they get to pet me!” A dog eager for attention and love is so very easy to train. Hazel is both intelligent and eager. She is going to be one fabulous therapy dog!
Enjoy this short video of her showing her mad skills. This is only her first training session with me and she did awesome! I can’t wait to see how far I can take her over this next week. Should be some great fun!
“Camp Baxter” where you get to have fun, but you must show good manners while you do it. 🙂
I also want to announce that “Jay”, Hazel’s brother, found a wonderful home this past weekend. He has moved to NM with Maria and Mark. I know they will give him the love and attention he deserves. I miss that boy, he was amazing! I’m tempted to repeat this breeding because of the top quality pups it produced. We will see…

OH MY GOODNESS Becky, you’re AMAZING!!! We just stopped for lunch and viewed the video. We couldn’t believe that was our yappy, jumping Miss Sassy Pants! We miss her already, but we’re so grateful that she’s with you! A million thank you’s for all you do, we’re blessed to have found you. You are an AWESOME breeder and doggie trainer!!! 😀
Great training session! Wish Zane and I could join you! It was 119 here (Palm Springs, CA area) yesterday and probably hit close to that today. Between living in a +55 community and this heat, no opportunities for this kind of work. Don’t even want to drive to a Home Depot or Petsmart for socialization work. The cars get too hot. We are housebound and back sliding! Yikes…… These puppies soumd like they all have strong personalities, are very smart and unflappable. Good job Becky!
We enrolled Gatsby in a therapy prep class and he is doing great. He still get excitable around children, though. Never fearful or anything of that nature, just SUPER happy to see them and wanting to be pet/play… But he is definitely improving! People are always impressed with how beautiful and level headed Gatsby is, and he is so in tune with me its like he can read my mind. He can tell when I am feeling bad or when I start to panic and he walks over and either sits on my feet or nuzzles me. 😛 He even climbed into the shower with me to let me alert and help me feel better. I couldn’t be more proud of him and tell everyone about the awesome breeder that I got him from! Thank you so much!
