Jazz and River to be bred!!

I am excited to announce that my first litter in 18 months will be between Jazz and River.  I haven’t had a litter where both parents live with me in about 8 years!  Anyone wanting a puppy from these two will be able to easily meet both the parents.  How cool is that!!  I have been stud searching for months, looking for a dog with lower Coefficient of Inbreeding and traits I need to add to my breeding program.  I haven’t had a lot of luck.  There are some nice dogs, but few have performance titles, even less full health testing.  There is a pretty blue boy up in Dallas who just finished his AKC conformation title, but he is young yet with only minimal health testing completed.  I decided it would be best to let him mature so I could see him over 3 years of age, let his Mom get his health testing finished and maybe get a performance title before using him.

When I received the results for the Haplotype study and Libby had the 6 and 28, I was over the moon.  I didn’t test River, who is her sire, because I thought the chances of him having something rare were slim.  Much to my surprise, both he and his half brother Quincy have the 6 haplotype.  I know this because Libby would not have a 6 if she didn’t get it from River.  I believe this is coming down from their mom’s German lineage.   In any case, this makes River rare and possibly vital to the Standard Poodle gene pool.  In short, I will be using River this fall with Jazz and maybe Georgie.  I need to keep at least one puppy from both litters, two would be best.  Interested in fostering?  Contact me for an application!

Here are the important facts about these two dogs:

Jazz is a lovely large blue Standard Poodle with a strong prey and play drive and is a great retriever.  She is a go getter, extremely friendly (to extreme maybe??), and can be a little pushy.  She is FUNNY and enjoys making people laugh.  Jazz is simply amazing with kids, not dominant or aggressive.  She is to rough with small dogs and will chase a cat any time she can.  Jazz is a bit higher drive than some family’s want in a pet, but she is perfect for me or an active household.  I love her!  She has a cast iron tummy, never gets sick.  She is a little on the thin side, but not skinny.  She just doesn’t ‘love’ food and eats only when she is hungry.  She has no separation anxiety and I could leave Jazz with anyone, she would be totally fine.  She has a love of balls and toys that is so cute!  I still haven’t convinced her the kids stuffed toys are not hers.  Jazz is very self assured and confident that life is all about fun!  You will never find a happier dog than Jazz.  As my nephew said “Everyone loves Jazz.   She’s pretty, gregarious, and cheerful. If it was high school, she’d be that one cheerleader everyone likes!”

River is a sharp looking smaller black boy with a calm loving attitude.  He is almost lazy!!  He is the first intact male that I have ever owned who is almost fat.  Most boys are so skinny it is scary, but not River.  He is what we call an ‘easy keeper’, with the attitude that food is a very important aspect of his life.  He never misses a meal and will eat Jazz’s food if she doesn’t finish up.  River is more reserved with strangers, less driven than Jazz.  He is good with cats and great with small dogs, due to a low prey drive.  I can safely take River off leash anywhere and he will listen with no issues.  He sees no reason to run off gallivanting or getting into trouble.   He is a jewel with children of all ages.  Even with his lazy attitude, he still has a nice retrieving drive and will play fetch with me for long periods.  River is a talker and communicates with Rumbles and low barks to make himself known.  When he wants something, he will bug you until you get it, he won’t be ignored!  River is more needy than Jazz and in typical boy style prefers to be right under my feet 24-7.  He can be a little morose about life, which I find incredibly funny.   He reminds me of Merlot, without the jerky dominant traits.  I love love love this dog.

These two dogs compliment each other in so many ways, both mentally and physically.  I’m excited to see what they produce as far as temperament and style.  Would you be interested in a puppy from River and Jazz?  Colors will be Black, Blue, and MAYBE Cream / White.   I believe we will get a nice mix of calm pets and moderate performance prospects.  All pups should make exceptional therapy prospects.  The size should be small to mid size dogs, from 22-25 inches.  Contact me to schedule a visit or to inquire about an application.  You can fill out the form above or email me directly at Becky@anutta.com

Here is a recent video of them on our camping trip to Padre Island National Seashore in August 2013.  You can see the difference in size, color, and even temperament.  Jazz is always looking to go father afield.  River mostly watches us and Jazz, with little view of the outside world.

A week of camping, getting wet in salt water, getting hosed off at the end of the day with fresh water, lots of sand and zero brushing left all that wonderful hair of River’s a complete mess.  He was felted at the skin all over his body.  I took him down with a 7 blade all over, except a tiny bit on the top of his head.

Jazz and River.  This photo clearly shows the difference between their color.  Jazz is a lovely light blue.  River is a non-fading black.  And yes, they love each other and are totally spoiled.

Genetic information for  JazzxRiver

The COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) is calculated up to a maximum of 12 generations. However, if a generation is found where fewer than 75% of the dogs in that generation are known, the calculation stops just short of that generation. So if all dogs are known in the 5th generation but only half of them are known in the 6th generation, a 5-generation COI will be calculated. For dogs with more than 10 generations of pedigree information available, a 10-generation COI is also calculated for comparison and statistical purposes.

The COI is calculated entirely from the pedigree information present in the database, so if there are inaccuracies in the pedigree, there will also be inaccuracies in the COI. I try to run the COI every Saturday. The calculations take about 14 hours to run. .

10-generation COI 2.73%
12-generation COI 5.09%

Top 5 ancestors contributing to COI, in order of influence:

AM CH Haus Brau Executive Of Acadia TP 0.55%
AM/CAN CH Wycliffe Michael 0.51%
AM CH Eaton Affirmed TP 0.43%
AM/CAN CH Wycliffe Kenneth 0.35%
AM CH Wycliffe Genevieve 0.32%

My goal is to always breed litters with a COI of less than 6%.  This litter meets those guidelines.
