This weekend mark’s Quincy’s debut in the Rally and Obedience rings.  I’ll let Heather, his foster mommy, fill us all in.

Saturday:

Went to the Corpus show this morning. After a rough start (car trouble) we got there with a cool 30 minutes to spare. Apparently there was some sort of horse show there also. Quincy was in the car barking like crazy at the horses. I was thinking Oh boy! This is going to be fun! HA! Found the dogs next door to all the horses. Paid for my entry, since I gave them the WRONG credit card number and walked the ring for Rally Novice B. He did really well in the Rally ring. I could talk to him and he was listening. We got a 95. Not good enough for a placement, but I was happy. I KNOW most of it was me. I cued him with my foot on the finish right. My Bad! Then on to Novice. BUSTED! His heeling was really not very good. He was all over the place, although the judge said I was NQ mainly because I gave him two verbal commands to heel. He nailed the stand and his sits and downs. On the recall he came like a bullet, sliding the last couple of feet, but did not front. Bounced around a bit afterward. Crowd loves him. People I train with said it wasn’t that bad. hmmm? Very nice judge. Told me he had “moments of brilliance” and will be wonderful. I think I will pull him from Novice tomorrow. He really isn’t ready and I don’t want him to get into any bad habits, or me either for that matter.

Everywhere we go someone always stops us to tell me how beautiful they think Quincy is. I tell them thank you, even though I had nothing to do with his breeding. Wanted to share that with you. He is truly a WONDERFUL dog. Thank you for sharing him with me.

SUNDAY:

Getting to the show was much easier today, however Quincy was very distracted just as we went in the ring. He wouldn’t sit and I automatically without thinking started to push his butt down…and the judge says..don’t do that. Oops! So I get him to finally sit and then he starts sniffing the mat and lays down, so I shift my foot to try and get his nose off the mat and the judge tells me….you can’t use your foot. My Bad!! So as you can see we started out STRONG! HA! We did get our second leg in Rally Novice, but the score was lower today. It was an 88. However the fourth place score was also an 88, so I guess it wasn’t too bad. We did have a do over so that is 3 points. This was the same judge I had in Novice yesterday. She told me he has tremendous potential. He has a wonderful temperament and people would kill to have a dog like him. Chalk up another admirer for Quincy. I am starting to think he should have a fan club, or at least his own facebook page.  Here is the link to the video of today.
I have the wrong year on it….sigh!

Quincy is now one qualifying score away from his Rally Novice title.  Thank you Heather for taking such excellent care of our boy!!  You can see he is having a ball, not at all stressed, and once he mentally matures he will be a great working pup!
