Rufus- black and white Parti male seeking forever home!

UPDATE: It is now 5 days after Rufus arrived and he has already found a wonderful home! Thank you everyone for your interested in this boy.

Look what has shown up at Anutta Poodles? A lady listed a male Standard Poodle in need of a home on the Austin Standard Poodle Facebook page. I told her I would happily list him on my blog, but if she wasn’t comfortable interviewing homes for him to let me know and I would take him. After some soul searching, as well as some votes of confidence from some wonderful people in that group, she decided I was his best hope of finding that perfect forever home.

Here are a series of short videos taken today over the course of about an hour. I can tell you now, this boy is a gem. He is lovely and will make someone an outstanding pet. Watch the video for some details about what I have seen so far.

Ideally I would like to see him in a home with no other pets. He is not a drop shy with dogs of any size, but he is pushy. For placement, the best option would be someone who can devote their time to him as their only dog or someone super dog savvy who has trained impulse control and understands how to correct and shape his behaviors to fit into their home. He is calm for his age, and a bit reserved when he meets a new human. When I first picked him up he had his tail down, walked up to me slowly, and wasn’t really sure, but in no way was his panicking or avoiding me at the end of his leash. He greeted Keith similarly when he came home a few minutes ago. Because of this, I would say he is mildly under socialized, but this will be super easy to fix. I’ve seen FAR FAR worse and honestly believe this is a non-issue. Physically, Rufus is strong and not well trained on leash. I’m working on that already and he is responding appropriately, but someone who has trained a large, strong dog in the past would be ideal. He doesn’t know some basic house manners, like not pushing he way out the door. We will cover those little items over the next few days.

I have all his records. He is up to date on vaccinations and will be good until September 2019. He has heart worm and flea medication as well. This boy has been well loved and cared for, so we have at a rare rescue with very little baggage. If you think your home might be a good match for Rufus, please go to my website and fill out an application here:

ADOPTION FEE: $200.00 to cover his board and training while here. He will be available after I feel his manners and leash skills are up to a manageable level for the average person to handle.

Best homes would be:

  1. Only dog home.
  2. KIDS- he adores kids, so homes with children is fine.
  3. Experienced with Standard Poodles. He is smart and will train someone who doesn’t know the breed.
  4. Someone with time to devote to some leash training and manners.
