The best laid schemes…

Today I had this fabulous idea.  I would take Lincoln with us to the park and get some video of him interacting with groups of people, both young and old.  The weather was cooler and everyone was in the car ready to go at 8 AM, before the heat spiked to 100 degrees.  I have had a lot of interest in him from different homes and I wanted to provide some video on his temperament.  Several different homes are looking for moderate to high end working dogs as well as therapy, so before someone makes a long trip, they might want to see him in action.

As the title indicates, my scheme indeed went awry.  We stopped at our local Mexican restaurant for “to go” breakfast taco’s and chips and queso.  This is something we treat ourselves to once a week.  The price is reasonable and the food is excellent.  Freshly made hot tortilla filled with bacon, eggs, and cheese goodness, I could eat them every day!  As I was making the kids their personal little plate of food, I realized I only had one extra small container which I use to give the kids a small amount of cheese dip.  Sometimes Aiden doesn’t want cheesedip and so I made Kenzie’s up and hoped he wouldn’t notice.  No such luck, today was a cheese dip day.  By this time we were on the road to the park and I made the judgement call to not return for a cup and to simply let Aiden eat from the large cheesedip container.  I mean really, how bad could it be!!!

Lincoln is exceptionally good with the kids and around people food.  He doesn’t beg, he doesn’t take things from the kids, so he just rides in the floorboard of the van when we are making short trips around town.  This day was no exception.  As the kids were eating, Lincoln was sleeping sounding below Aiden’s carseat.

Right as I pull into the park, I hear “UhOH…” from Aiden, then Kenzie says “Mommy, Look Mommy, Lincoln has cheese on his head!”.  I say “ok, just a sec, I’ll get it off” but I failed to grasp the degree of cheese.

Needless to say, the video will have to wait until tomorrow.  On a good note, Lincoln was not freshly bathed and groomed, although by days end he will be.
