Life With Poodles

Busy Busy!

I just wanted to make a quick post to let everyone know things are about to get SUPER CRAZY AMAZINGLY busy around here.  We will have my husband’s family visiting this weekend and most of next week.  Keith is being promoted to Colonial on the 14th and there is going to be quit the celebration.  Thursday of next week Heather McQuiddy and I are meeting up in Austin to attend a CERF clinic with Flash, Jazz, and Quincy.  Friday of next week my parents arrive for a long weekend visit.  Then there is Thanksgiving.  With that said, blog post might be limited to once a week, maybe even less.  I’ll keep everyone updated on the new rescue girl, Sasha, but that is probably going to be the extent of what I can offer.  Once we are past the holidays I plan on doing a few training videos.  Heather McQuiddy has requested I do a video on how to start training the Dumb Bell retrieve with all positive training (clicker work).   When I get a spare moment, I will be focusing on this task with Jazz.  She has no true retrieve and is well imprinted on how clicker training works. She is the perfect dog to use for showing how to train a positive retrieve and hold.

I’ll leave you with a couple photos I took of Mocha and her new mom, Lisa, when she picked her up this Sunday.  I FINALLY got my computer back from the repair shop, so editing photos is less painful.  Below is the email update I received from Lisa earlier this week.

We made it home safe.  She met Abby, my toy poodle.  Abby loved her immediately and appreciated having another poodle.  Mocha likes Abby and they get along extremely well.
Misty wasn’t sure at first.  She liked her but kept looking at her and shaking her head.  It was funny to watch.  Mocha loves playing with Misty!
Bella (daughters dog) was over the moon!  She immediately wanted to play, show Mocha around but was to “in your face”. Mocha snapped at her and Bella thought ah cool! She really likes me let’s do that again.  Mocha was ok but knew she wasn’t going to play this game and she was going to stop it now.  Mocha tried ignoring but ignoring Bella’s excitement is impossible.  I was proud of her for being patient, but putting her foot down also.
She slept with me and Abby.  Still somewhat unsure, but she was happy to just get somewhere and lay down.
We slept till about 9.  She was laying close to me when I woke up.  I petted her as she was waking up and she stretched out as far as she could.  We snuggled and took our time getting up.
She was unsure about getting out of bed.  I left door open and let her come out on her terms.  She’s funny.  All of a sudden, I see her peak her head around the corner looking to see if coast was clear.
She met my husband, Tony, tonight.  I don’t know who thinks the other is better than butter.  They played and played.  Tony can’t say enough about her.
This evening we went for a walk.  She’s a happy girl when on an adventure.  She had fun smelling new things, seeing new things and doing her bouncy jump skip run.
She is feeling more comfortable now and seems willing to keep settling in.  Tonight, I went to bedroom, she runs in, jumps on bed(in one leap) turns to look at me and started wagging her tail so fast.
She is going to do so well.  I know there’s many more days, few weeks, until she really settles in and knows she runs the house and is top dog in our home.  I know she will fill this position quite well when she really understands since she is mine, her rank is #1.
What is unique is the other dogs already know this.
I am so happy to have her.  I just can’t even begin to tell you what she means to me.  Oh my gosh, I love her.
I always called Joye my precious one.
Mocha is my angel.  In every way possible, she is my angel, straight from Heaven.
I thank you so much for letting her come with me.  Mocha and I must run now, get some sleep, and have our settle in time. I will send more updates soon.
Thanks again,
Lisa Cooper
