Gatsby Update! (Georgie and River puppy from 2012 litter)

I contacted Jennifer up in Dallas who has Gatsby from our last litter.  Because I am planning to repeat the litter between Georgie and River, I wanted to ask Jennifer if it would be OK for families in the DFW area to contact her and maybe visit her pup.  Gatsby is 1.5 years old now and should give interested parties an idea of size, color, and temperament.  Jennifer sent me an interesting update which I wanted to share with our subscribers.

Gatsby has been doing great. 🙂  His training is doing well. When he hit his teenager stage his brain fell out and he was a big goof for a little while. I had him neutered last month and he’s recovered and calmed down quite a bit. He’s as sweet as ever 🙂

I went to puppy classes and therapy classes at Dog City Training Center and liked it there. I also worked with Possibility Dogs, Inc which is a local service dog program.

He’s about 25″ at the shoulder, maybe 26″, and is 25.5″ around. He weighs about 50 pounds now. I would be happy to meet and let people see Gatsby!

I guess I will brag on my boy for a bit… Last week I went to the post office to pick up a package. The first time I went a man that worked there approached me and harassed me about having Gatsby with me and wouldn’t let me explain, saying I needed an ID card for Gatsby. He left me crying, curled up in a ball in the corner, Gatsby doing his best to tend to me. The second time I went when this guy was working, this past week, he did the same thing. This time Gatsby went straight to work doing his job. He stood and body blocked the people behind me, laid on my feet with his butt behind me to ground me while he blocked people from behind. He did all this while ignoring a squealing toddler within licking distance! Because of him I got through the experience without shutting down. 🙂

Here is a mountain of pictures for you 🙂  – Jennifer

Gatsby is in training to be Jennifer’s service dog.  He is her emotional and physical support system and seems to be coming into his own.  When Jennifer contacted me back in January of 2012, she really wanted a female.  Every dog is different, every litter is different, but generally with my dogs the males are the super empathetic beings.  The girls love the family, make amazing therapy dogs, but the boys often pick their favorite person and bond extremely closely to them.  Jennifer was looking for a partner who could read her emotions and take action to help her.  I explained likely the best puppy in the litter for her needs would be a male.  I would not count out a female, but if I had to bet money, I would say boy.  To Jennifer’s credit she took everything I had to say about puppy selection to heart and I think the match was a good one.

Service dogs can help people in so many ways.  I am happy some of my crew is out in the world making a difference in people’s lives.
