Life With Poodles

Zane! Past Puppy Update

I received an update on Piper’s brother, Zane who is 7 months old.  He lives in California with Sherri, Mark, and his Aunt Elvira and is working towards becoming a therapy dog.  ~ Becky
What I love about this photo is it shows my goals for the structure of my dogs.  He is standing natural, his head is in front of his legs, his ears fall in front of his legs (many show dogs do not, due to a ewe neck and poor front), his rear is balanced with his front.  This dog is Poodle, but he could still work all day in the field without breaking down!  You can achieve sound structure and still retain breed type!  He is no caricature of a Poodle like so many conformation show dogs.  -BECKY
Here’s some recent photos of Zane. The first is before his hair cut, the next 3 are right after. Such a pretty boy. The groomer said he is real easy to work with. She loves his coat. She says all of our poos (your puppies!) have had gorgeous thick coats and are really beautiful standard poodles. She has a huge standard poodle clientele. Ours are he favorites. She has a big shop and the dogs that earn it can run around with each other. Zane has finally earned it because he has stopped excited puppy peeing!! He was 39.7 lbs last week at the vet, and as close as I can tell at least 21” at the shoulders.
The heat here has finally broken, now we were only 95 today. So can start getting out more with him. Old timers here are saying they cannot remember a more awful, long, hot, and humid summer. Certainly set back my training plans with Zane.
I love his temperament. He is gregarious with people and dogs (maybe a little too much with dogs). Definitely bullet proof so far. Smart….. has now learned to open the crate door, so having to clip it closed. The minute a kong is brought out with the peanut butter jar, he goes and sits in the crate! When Elvira and I do therapy work, that is where he is left at home. He is a great traveler in the car. Sits pretty still in his car harness. But yesterday he decided to check out Elvira’s “side” and ended up sitting down on her! She has been so tolerant bless her heart.
Just thought I would catch you up.
